Immune System- Tumors
The tumor microenvironment is an important aspect of cancer biology that contributes to tumor initiation, tumor progression and responses to therapy. Cells and molecules of the immune system are a fundamental component of the tumor microenvironment. The ongoing battle between hosts and pathogens has long been of interest to evolutionary biologists. Because hosts and pathogens act as environments for each other, their intertwined struggle for existence is both continual and rapid. It is therefore little wonder that the host and pathogen genes that control infection and immunity frequently show high levels of genetic diversity and presents some of the best examples of positive selection (adaptive evolution) There are two main classifications of tumors. One is known as benign and the other as malignant. A benign tumor is a tumor that does not invade its surrounding tissue or spread around the body.
